Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Sunday emphasized the importance of creating awareness about liquor prohibition, stating that the campaign can only succeed through joint efforts by the government and society. Addressing a Republic Day function at Nehru Stadium in Indore, Yadav inspected the ceremonial parade and reiterated the government's commitment to curbing liquor sales in religious towns.
Earlier, the state cabinet, on January 24, decided to ban the sale of liquor in 17 religious cities and towns of Madhya Pradesh. Yadav mentioned that this decision was taken following the advice of saints and social organizations. He also reaffirmed that liquor prohibition would continue along both banks of the Narmada River as per the existing rules.
Governor Mangubhai Patel marked the Republic Day celebrations in Bhopal by unfurling the national flag at the Lal Parade Ground. State ministers also participated in similar functions in various districts, reading out the chief minister's message and inspecting the ceremonial parades.
Highlighting the state’s achievements, Yadav said Madhya Pradesh is gaining recognition as a developed and investor-friendly state. Declaring 2025 as the "Year of Industry and Employment," he announced that the government had received investment proposals worth over ?4.17 lakh crore through regional industrial conferences and international programs. He stated that if these proposals materialize, more than four lakh people would benefit from employment opportunities.
Remembering BR Ambedkar, the chief minister acknowledged his unparalleled contribution to framing the Constitution, describing it as a guiding document that instills awareness about citizens' duties, rights, pride, and self-respect. Notably, Dr. Ambedkar was born in Mhow, near Indore, a fact that holds special significance for the state.
Meanwhile, Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari unfurled the national flag at the party's state headquarters, while Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh attended the celebrations at the Congress office in Indore. The Republic Day events across the state were marked by patriotic fervor, ceremonial parades, and cultural programs.
