Following the conclusion of the tenure of the chairperson of the Madhya Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission, the hunt has begun for a new head for the key electricity body in the state.
The Energy Department has formed a committee for the selection of the new chairman. The committee, which includes a retired High Court judge, the Chief Secretary, and the Chairman of the Electricity Authority, will select a panel and present it to the government for further action.
The process of inviting applications for the position has been completed, with retired IAS officers also applying. The committee was formed by the Additional Chief Secretary, Neeraj Mandloi.
Retired High Court judge Rupesh Chandra Varshney heads the committee, which will soon meet to finalise the panel of names for the position.
The selection committee will consider the names of those who have expressed interest in the chairmanship and will send three selected names to the state government.
Applications for the position were initially invited with a September 17 deadline. The schedule was later extended by 15 days to October 3, 2024. The deadline was further extended, and applications were accepted until November 5, 2024.
The final name will be decided at a meeting attended by CM Mohan Yadav, the Leader of the Opposition, and other members.
