HM Shah inaugurates working women hostel Sushma Swaraj Bhawan and Veterinary Centre in city

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the working women hostel – Sushma Swaraj Bhawan and Veterinary Center (Modern Animal Care facility) in the capital and also recalled her ‘fighting spirit’ as an Opposition leader. To mark the inauguration of Sushma Bhawan – working women hostel, Shah handed over the keys of hostel rooms to three new inhabitants.

Highlighting the infrastructure developmental projects executed by the Modi government, Shah said he has come with a list of developmental works executed by the Modi government, worth Rs 68000 crore  in the past 10 years. “The Modi government has invested Rs 41,000 crores in road development, Rs 15,000 crores in railway-related projects, and Rs 12,000 crores to enhance services at the airport and its surroundings, Rs 8,000 crores were spent on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and now, one can reach Meerut from Delhi in 45 minutes”, he said.

“A high-speed corridor is being built to complete the 24-hour journey from Delhi to Mumbai in 12 hours; Dwarka Expressway has been built at a cost of Rs 7,500 crores, Eastern Peripheral Expressway at a cost of Rs 11,000 crores, Urban Extension Road at a cost of Rs 7,715 crores, Pragati Maidan Integrated Transit Corridor at a cost of Rs 920 crores and Delhi-Meerut RRTS Rail Corridor has been built at a cost of Rs 30,000 crores”.

He said that a 7000-seat convention center and a 3000-seat amphitheater were built in Bharat Mandapam. Yashobhoomi Convention Center at a cost of Rs 5400 crore, Dwarka Golf Course at a cost of Rs 250 crore and Dwarka Sports Complex built at a cost of Rs 92 crore. He said a scheme to give ownership rights to 40 lakh poor people by starting the process of regularizing 1731 colonies under PM-Uday Yojana, a scheme to give flats to slum dwellers, 29 thousand houses under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban and 3000 EWS flats were built at a cost of about ?354 crore. New Veer Savarkar College in Delhi University, Prime Minister Museum, Police Memorial, National War Memorial, development of India International Convention Center and Expo Center, Oxygen Park and many green initiatives have also been taken.

In a veiled attack on former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Shah said AAP convener should organise a ‘Sheeshmahal Darshan”, programmes for the people of Delhi referring to the 6 Flag Staff Marg bungalow where Kejriwal used to live during his tenure as chief minister of Delhi.

Shah, referring to the allegations regarding the construction of a Sheesh Mahal in Delhi on 50,000 square yards at a cost of Rs 45 crores, stated that the people of the capital are demanding accountability for this expenditure. He remarked that despite having the opportunity to focus on the development of Delhi's infrastructure over 10 years, the focus was shifted to constructing a Sheesh Mahal instead of prioritizing development.

At the event Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena, Member of Parliament, Bansuri Swaraj, New Delhi Municipal Council  Chairman Keshav Chandra, Vice Chairman, Kuljeet Singh Chahal, Members Shri Anil Valmiki, Sarita Tomar and Dinesh Pratap Singh along with Secretary Tariq Thomas, Head of Departments, Senior officers and employees of NDMC were present. 

The Home Minsiter stated that the NDMC has provided safe accommodation for approximately 500 working women through the construction of Sushma Bhawan. He said that the inauguration of this building is a significant step in highlighting Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for urban development.  He said that since assuming office in 2014, PM Modi has laid a strong policy foundation for transforming India’s urban landscape. Shah noted that PM Modi stressed the importance of global-standard facilities and included them as a central element of the urban development policy.

Speaking on the occasion, Saxena said in this Sushma Bhawan, 39 well-furnished rooms have been built in a three-storey building, which are equipped with AC and Lift facilities where 78 working women will be able to get housing facility in this complex while Chandra said that this is an unforgettable moment for all of us that a new chapter has been added in the series of working women hostels of NDMC in the name of Sushma Bhawan.
