The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) has unearthed a major scam in Rewa district, exposing the fraudulent allocation of liquor contracts through fake bank guarantees. The investigation has revealed the embezzlement of crores of rupees, allegedly involving liquor contractors, the District Excise Office, and the District Cooperative Bank branch in Morba.

The probe was initiated after Advocate B.K. Mala lodged a complaint with the Economic Offences Investigation Bureau (EOW) on June 28, 2023. The complaint highlighted the use of fraudulent bank guarantees to illegally secure liquor shop licenses for contractors. Acting on these allegations, the EOW registered an FIR against multiple individuals, including key officials and liquor contractors.

The investigation found that Nagendra Singh, the then-branch manager of the District Cooperative Bank in Morba, issued 14 fake bank guarantees totaling ?15.32 crore. Nine of these fraudulent guarantees were used to obtain liquor licenses for shops across Rewa, Singrauli, Umaria, and Satna districts.

Those named in the FIR include Nagendra Singh, the former in-charge branch manager of the District Cooperative Central Bank Limited, Morba (Singrauli), and several liquor contractors—Nripendra Singh of M/s Maa Laxmi Enterprises (Baikunthpur), Ajit Singh of M/s Asha Enterprises (Etaur), Upendra Singh Baghel (Mauganj), Aditya Pratap Singh (Raipur), and Vijay Bahadur Singh of M/s Arya Group (Saman Naka). Additionally, Anil Jain, the then-District Excise Officer of Rewa, has also been implicated in the case.

The revelations have raised serious concerns over fraudulent practices in the allocation of liquor licenses and the deep nexus between officials and contractors in this multi-crore scam. Authorities are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the corruption and hold the accused accountable.
