The district administration on Monday pulled down nearly 25 encroachments in the congested Prabhat Square area of the state capital. The removal of encroachments paves the way for a three-tier transit system, including vehicular traffic and metro rail tracks.
Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Ravish Srivastava led the joint operation carried out by Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Public Works Department (PWD) workers, in the presence of a large police contingent led by Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Manpreet Brar.
Srivastava said that nearly 25 encroachments were removed by the administration to clear the way for the proposed Rs 44.10 crore flyover project.
The flyover is designed to connect Lajpat Nagar to Kali Mandir via the Prabhat intersection—one of the busiest traffic junctions in the city.
PWD officials said that an additional 70 encroachments in the area will also be removed in the near future. Encroachers have already been notified of the demolition plans.
Minister Vishwas Sarang, who recently visited the area to call for the early commencement of work, has said that the flyover will be completed in under a year to clear the decks for metro construction.
Sources say a committee has been constituted to coordinate the multi-pronged infrastructure project and ensure its timely completion.
The flyover aims to ease congestion at Prabhat Square, significantly improving traffic flow and contributing to the city’s growing infrastructure.
