Bhopal MP Alok Sharma walked out of a District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) meeting on Friday after the Municipal Commissioner failed to show up, raising concerns about official negligence.
The parliamentarian chaired the meeting for the first time, reviewing key areas such as electricity and water resources. He expressed frustration over incomplete projects and absentee officials, proposing notices for those absent. The absence of the Municipal Commissioner heightened tensions.
Sharma was particularly angered when Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan was found missing, and his calls went unanswered. Along with MLA Bhagwandas Sabnani and Mayor Malti Rai, Sharma attempted to contact Yadav, but to no avail. Consequently, Sharma postponed the meeting.
Sharma criticised Narayan's absence, calling it an "insult to Bhopal's 3.5 million residents." The meeting had aimed to address crucial public issues, including the Smart City project, electricity, and water supply.
Following the incident, the Collector met with the dissatisfied officials to discuss the matter privately. Meanwhile, the Municipal Commissioner claimed he was unaware of the meeting and had been engaged in a separate meeting with a Delhi team.
Bhopal’s villages continue to face significant issues, such as power disconnections and inadequate water supply. On Thursday, officials had already raised concerns regarding these pressing problems, which were expected to be addressed at the meeting.
