A review meeting chaired by District Magistrate-cum-Deputy Commissioner Ananya Mittal focused on the security and infrastructure of jails and the functioning of the Excise Department in East Singhbhum. The meeting, held at the Collectorate Auditorium, covered key issues concerning Ghaghidih Jail, Sakchi Jail, Ghatshila Sub-Jail, and related facilities.
The review included assessments of security measures, repair and renovation needs of essential facilities like cells, hospitals, watchtowers, and water supply systems in the jails. Proposals for capacity enhancement in jails and acquisition of nearby private land for expansion were discussed, with instructions to submit proposals to the concerned departments. The development of a railway station court was also directed to be expedited.
To address the drinking water issue in Ghaghidih Jail, the Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED) was instructed to link the facility to the Bagbera Water Supply Scheme by March. Additionally, incorporating training programs, including Sohrai painting workshops, for inmates was proposed.
Key security enhancements directed during the meeting included: Installation of 4G and 5G jammers in jails. Provision of walkie-talkies for staff. Deployment of adequate security personnel in watchtowers. Increased police patrolling and improved lighting around jail premises.
Regular inspections and sudden raids in jails, sub-jails, juvenile homes, and court custody areas were emphasized. Authorities were instructed to act against unauthorized gatherings or encroachments near jail and residential premises. Strengthening the intelligence network for effective enforcement was also highlighted.
The Excise Department was instructed to conduct checks on bars, shops, and liquor dealers, take strict action against counterfeit liquor businesses, and address related complaints. Compliance with bar operating schedules and the verification of one-time licenses issued to bar owners were also mandated.
The meeting was attended by ADM (Law and Order) Aniket Sachan, SDM Dhalbhum Shatabdi Mazumdar, City SP Kumar Shivashish, SDM Ghatshila Sunil Chandra, DSP, Jail Superintendent, officials from the Excise Department, and other concerned officers.
The session underscored the district administration’s commitment to enhancing jail security, improving infrastructure, and ensuring effective law.
