The weather in Madhya Pradesh has changed once again, with clouds and fog covering many districts, including Bhopal, Dindori, Indore, Morena, Bhind, Vidisha, Sagar, Raisen, Narmadapuram, Betul, and Burhanpur.
Fog was dense particularly in Gwalior, Morena, and Bhind, causing commuters to travel with their vehicle headlights on.
According to the Meteorological Department, the night temperature in the state had risen over the past two to three days due to Western Disturbance. However, the mercury dropped again today, leading to a noticeable increase in cold conditions.
The Met forecasted the first Mawtha (winter rains) of the season from December 23 to 28, accompanied by rain and possible hail in some regions.
Senior Met scientist explained that the Western Disturbance will bring north-western winds, which will carry moisture from the Arabian Sea, while eastern winds from the Bay of Bengal will also contribute. This weather system is expected to bring light to moderate rain and cloud cover across the state, with the potential for hailstorms in some areas.
The induced Low Pressure Area lies over northwest Rajasthan & neighbourhood. Subtropical westerly Jet Stream with core winds continue to prevail over North India. An active western disturbance is likely to affect western Himalayan region & adjoining plains from December 27.
December traditionally sees rain in the state, and this year will follow a similar pattern. While temperatures may rise by 2 to 3 degrees during the system's influence, the cold will intensify again once the system passes.
The Meteorological Department also reported a drop in temperatures across many cities during the night of Saturday and Sunday.
Pachmarhi, recorded the lowest temperature at 3.9 degree celsius. Other cities saw temperatures of 5.6 degree celsius in Khajuraho, 5.8 degree celsius in Rewa, and below 10 degree celsius in Nowgong , Raisen, Tikamgarh, Rajgarh, Satna, Mandla, Umaria, and Damoh.
In major cities, Bhopal recorded 7.9 degree celsius, Indore 13.9 degree celsius, Gwalior 7.3 degree celsius, Ujjain 11degree celsius, and Jabalpur 8.5 degree celsius in the night.
During the last 24 hours the weather remained dry in all the divisions of the state. No significant changes were observed in day temperatures in all the divisions of the state.
The day temperatures were recorded below normal in districts of Ujjain division; remained normal in all the divisions of the state.
On the other hand, night temperatures significantly increase in districts of Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Gwalior, Rewa divisions and no significant changes in the districts of remaining divisions.
Night temperatures were recorded above normal in districts of Bhopal, Narmadapuram, Ujjain divisions; while significant rise above normal was recorded in districts of Indore, Gwalior, Rewa, Shahdol divisions and remained normal in all the remaining divisions of the state.
The Met department has issued warning of shallow to Moderate Fog prevailed in Bhind, Datia, Morena, Gwalior Districts. Nowgong was the coldest place beating Pachmarhi which recorded night at 6.2 degree celsius while Pachmarhi recorded 7.9 degree celsius on Sunday night.
