The stage is set for the first phase of Assembly Election 2024, with voting set to commence at 7:00 AM on Wednesday. Polling parties were dispatched today from two central dispatch centers under the careful supervision of District Election Officer Ananya Mittal and Senior Superintendent of Police  Kishore Kaushal.

Polling parties assigned to the Baharagora, Ghatshila, and Potka constituencies assembled at LBSM College, while those responsible for Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East, and Jamshedpur West received their assignments from Jamshedpur Cooperative College. These polling teams were provided with all necessary electoral materials, including Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs), Voter Verifiable Paper Audit Trails (VVPATs), control units, and essential forms, and dispatched to their respective polling stations across the district.

In his remarks, District Election Officer  Mittal stressed the district administration’s commitment to upholding electoral integrity, free from any external influence or intimidation. “Our focus is on delivering a free, transparent, and seamless voting process, enabling every eligible voter to cast their vote without fear,” he said.

The District Election Officer, alongside sector officers and police officials, conducted a joint briefing for the polling personnel, detailing critical aspects of election conduct, safety protocols, and procedures for emergency decision-making. Teams were instructed to maintain close coordination and adhere to established protocols to ensure smooth voting. Instructions emphasized that any issues encountered at polling stations should be promptly communicated to higher authorities, underscoring a proactive approach to problem-solving.

Security measures are also in place to safeguard the polling locations, with law enforcement and election officials working together to provide a safe environment. Sector Police Officers are stationed to assist with any law-and-order concerns and are prepared to respond swiftly to unforeseen events.

The district’s 1,913 polling stations will be open to 18,73,589 registered voters from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Election Day, with district authorities hoping for an enthusiastic voter turnout. Polling officials have called on all eligible residents to participate and make their voices heard. This election is expected to draw a significant turnout as citizens in the six constituencies—Baharagora, Ghatshila, Potka, Jugsalai, Jamshedpur East, and Jamshedpur West—exercise their voting rights.

At both dispatch centers, comprehensive arrangements were made to ensure polling teams had easy access to voting materials, such as EVMs, forms, and all essential supplies. By providing polling personnel with adequate facilities, the district administration aimed to prevent any logistical issues, supporting a seamless handover of materials and equipment. Authorities also ensured the teams’ timely departure to polling stations, affirming their commitment to a smooth electoral process.

Polling workers displayed palpable enthusiasm and dedication as they prepared to depart for their stations. For many, participating in the electoral process was a source of pride and honor. One polling official shared, “Being part of this election is incredibly meaningful. We are excited to facilitate this great festival of democracy and ensure that every vote counts. Now, we look forward to seeing the people of our district come out in record numbers to cast their votes.”

Jamshedpur: In the Assembly elections, voters in East Singhbhum district will have flexibility in providing identification at polling stations.
