The water in Upper Laker of Bhopal decreased by 2 feet within one and a half month. The reason for this has been theft and heat. The intense heat caused evaporation of water. Upper Lake supplies water to 20 percent of the city. There will be no problems in drinking water supply due to depletion of water.
The level of Upper Lake , the lifeline of the city, is 1666.80 feet. The big pond was completely filled with rain. Due to this, the gates of Bhadbhada Dam had to be opened. As of April 1, there was 1661.50 feet of water in Upper Lake , which was 1659.50 feet on May 15. That means, the water level decreased by 2 feet in just one and a half month.
Municipal Corporation's Assistant Engineer (Water Works) Ajay Singh Solanki said, there was good rainfall in Sehore district during the monsoon season. Due to this the big pond was completely filled. There was less water fall in the areas around the pond. For this reason farmers also took water for irrigation. Full tank level monitor has been installed in Bishankhedi itself. Water was stolen from here also. Due to this the water decreased rapidly. However, due to the strictness of the corporation, cases of theft are no longer happening.
Last year till May 11, there was 1661.30 feet water in Upper Lake , which has come down to 1659.50 feet this year. That means, compared to last year, this time the water has reduced rapidly.
