The Centre for Studies in Tribal and Indigenous Communities (CSTIC) at Dharmashastra National Law University (DNLU) organized a grand event on Janjatiya Gaurav Diwas (Tribal Pride Day), commemorating the birth anniversary of Bhagwan Birsa Munda, on Friday.
The event was held under the esteemed guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Manoj Kumar Sinha, Hon'ble Vice Chancellor of DNLU, and was coordinated by Dr. Jalaj Goantiya and Dr. Amit Kumar Mishra, Faculty Advisors of CSTIC alongwith the student organizing committee included . Rishabh Bharti, Convenor, and Ms. Mayuri Tumdam and Piyush More, Co-Convenors.
The Guests of Honor were distinguished personalities from various fields, including Prakash Singh Uikey, Retired Judge, National Scheduled Tribe Commission, New Delhi, Prof. (Dr.) Bir Pal Singh, President, Centre for Tribal Studies and Research, National Law Institute University, Bhopal, Dr. Harishankar Markam, Head of Department, NSCB Medical College, Jabalpur, Subhash Badole, Social Worker, Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram
Subhash Badole delivered an insightful address titled "An Introduction to the Diversity of Tribal Communities in India", emphasizing the invaluable contributions of tribal communities to India's freedom struggle and their enduring presence in mythological narratives. Dr. Harishankar Markam elaborated on Bhagwan Birsa Munda's pivotal role in resisting British colonial rule and his sacrifices for the upliftment of tribal communities.
Prof. (Dr.) Bir Pal Singh shared fascinating anecdotes highlighting the tribes' unique knowledge of environmental preservation and their rich cultural heritage. Prakash Singh Uikey stressed the importance of legal reforms to preserve customary laws and safeguard tribal identity. He also emphasized the need for a shift in societal and tribal mindsets to foster inclusivity and harmony.
