A woman was killed on Saturday and her husband sustained grievous injuries as a scooter by which they were travelling had a head-on collision with a Hyva truck at Badaberena on the Begunia-Baghamari road in Khordha district.
Identities of the deceased and the injured were not ascertained yet.
According to a source, the couple was on their way to Bhubaneswar when they met with the accident. The man was rescued by locals and rushed to a hospital in a critical condition.
“The two-wheeler was dragged up to a distance of around 50 meter by a Hyva truck after the fatal road mishap. A middle-aged woman was run over by the speeding truck and she died on the spot in the mishap,” an eyewitness said.
Tension prevailed on the spot following the accident and irate locals staged a roadblock demanding adequate compensation to the deceased’s family. Vehicular communication on the road was completely disrupted for quite a long time.
