Two groups of juveniles clashed at a temple in northwest Delhi's Jahangirpuri area, leading to stone pelting.
According to police on Tuesday, two minor boys sustained injuries in the incident who were rushed to a nearby hospital where their condition was stated to be normal.
A purported CCTV footage of the stone pelting incident went viral on social media platforms in which some of the boys can be seen throwing stones at each other at a temple. Police said that the incident took place at around 8.15 pm on Monday and legal action has been initiated in the matter.
"We received multiple PCR calls regarding some quarrel near the temple area. Teams from Mahindra Park police station immediately rushed to the spot and initial investigation suggested that two groups of juveniles from the same community clashed with each other," a police officer said in a statement.
The officer further said that there had been a dispute between both the groups and earlier three juveniles were booked as well. “It is found that two groups have been quarreling with each other. Among these, there are about three such juveniles who are Children in Conflict with Law (CCL), against whom the FIR has been filed before,” he added.
He stated, “In addition, we know that there are two juveniles who have been injured in this quarrel. They have been taken to the hospital immediately and their treatment has been done. They have been discharged and we have taken their statement. We have taken legal action in this whole matter.”
Deputy Commissioner of Police (northwest) Abhishek Dhania said in a video message that some people have tried to disturb the communal harmony and projected this whole episode in a wrong way through social media, especially through Twitter.
“These are baseless and have no evidence. It seems that they have deliberately taken this whole episode from a temple and taken it in a different way,” he claimed.
"Teams have been formed to nab the accused. Our cyber team has identified three to four social media handles who were spreading misinformation about the entire incident. Legal action will be taken against them too," the DCP said.
