State’s women to get Rs 1,000 from Aug, says Thakur

Wednesday, 17 July 2024 | Roshan Kumar | Ranchi

The Jharkhand government on the lines of Madhya Pradesh government’s Ladli Behna scheme is going to give Rs 1,000 to all women above 21 years of age. The Rs 1,000 incentive to women was one of the poll planks of JMM/Congress alliance government.

State drinking water and sanitation minister Mithilesh Kumar Thakur on Tuesday said that from the month of August, Rs 1,000 will be sent in the accounts of all women of the state between the age of 21 to 49 years.

Thakur announced this while visiting various villages under Meral block of Garhwa assembly constituency on Tuesday.

Madhya Pradesh government Ladli Behna Yojana was launched by the then Shivraj Singh Chouhan government in March last year, under which women from lower- and middle-class homes were to receive a monthly transfer of Rs 1,000 into their accounts.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan Ladli Behna Yojana was one the populist schemes of Madhya Pradesh government and riding on this scheme BJP retained power in Central India state for the fifth time. The popularity of the scheme was such that many state governments later copied the scheme, however, they have changed the name of the scheme.

The Delhi government has announced Rs 1,000 per month for all women above 18 years in the national capital, with striking similarities to an initiative launched in Madhya Pradesh last year.

The Delhi government announced Rs 1,000 per month to all women above 18 years in the national capital under the Mukhyamantri Samman Yojna when Delhi Finance Minister Atishi presented a Rs 76,000 crore budget in March this year.

Meanwhile, Minister Thakur during his visit to Garhwa also met villagers and got acquainted with their problems of the area and talked about resolving them as soon as possible. He also participated in the program organized by the Muharram Committee in village Nawada and village Karke. In this sequence, more than 200 people left various political parties in Duldulwa and joined Jharkhand Mukti Morcha, impressed by the work of the Jharkhand government. The minister said, the previous public representatives have only cheated the public.

Thakur said that in the upcoming assembly elections, the public itself is ready to forfeit the deposit of opponents, liars and deceivers. This time the public will tell that votes are received on development works and not on lies and deceit. He said that since the formation of the Mahagathbandhan government under the leadership of Hemant Soren, schemes are being implemented keeping in mind the last people of the society.

Earlier, the elderly used to wait for their pensions. Now all the people of Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe and all women above 50 years of age are getting pension. The minister said that from the coming month of August, all those women between 21 to 49 years of age who do not work and who do not pay income tax will be sent one thousand rupees every month in their account.
