In a significant initiative aimed at promoting the holistic development of children, the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, launched sports and cultural contests in PM SHRI schools on Monday.
These events, taking place from December 9 to 14 at the school level and from December 16 to 20 at the district level, are designed to foster physical, mental, and social growth among students while promoting community engagement.
With a budget allocation of Rs 2.5 crore, the government has approved financial support of Rs 6,000 per school and Rs 2,00,000 per district for organising these events, which include two-day annual festivals, sports competitions, and one-day district-level programs.
The initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Education’s guidelines for PM SHRI schools, emphasising the importance of physical and cultural development.
The objectives of the initiative are to engage parents and the community with school activities, develop students’ physical, mental, and social skills, promote teamwork, discipline, and a sense of responsibility.
The objectives also include providing talented students with opportunities to participate in state and national-level competitions.
At the school level, students will participate in various sports and cultural competitions. The sports events will include races, relay races, kabaddi, kho-kho, football, and volleyball.
Cultural activities will feature dance, singing, drama, and poster competitions, aiming to enhance students’ creativity and confidence.
At the district level, the winners from school competitions will compete in events such as athletics, chess, table tennis, and yoga in sports.
In the cultural arena, there will be contests in speech, drama, story writing, and poetry recitation.
Each district has been allocated a budget of Rs 2 lakh to support these activities. All students participating in the competitions will receive certificates, with winners receiving prizes. Exceptional performers will also be specially honoured.
Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Basic Education Sandeep Singh said that the initiative aims to involve parents and the community in school activities actively.
By focusing on the physical, mental, and social development of children, the programme seeks to instill moral values, discipline, and teamwork, preparing students for future challenges.
