Saturday, 16 November 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

As the northern state of Jammu and Kashmir witnessed the first snowfall of the season on November 11, a change in the weather condition in Ranchi is also being felt as the City gears up for the upcoming winter season.

Owning to the incoming north westerly winds, on Friday evening, the minimum temperature in the State capital had dropped down to 14.2 degree Celsius which at the beginning of the week was recorded at 17 degree Celsius. While the maximum temperature hovers around 27 degree Celsius, the morning and evening hours come accompanied with a slight chill, which is typical for this time of the year.

As per the MET Centre, Ranchi from November 18 onwards the minimum temperature is likely to further come down by 2 to 3 degrees. Shallow to moderate fog in the early morning hours mainly in areas around forests, water bodies and open fields will be seen. Places adjoining the Bihar- Jharkhand border may also witness fog and mist. With clear weather conditions, there are no chances of rainfall and thunderstorm activity on the cards for the next one week.

“There will be a drop in the minimum temperature levels from November 18 onwards. This is due to the incoming north westerly winds from the upper reaches which recently witnessed snowfall. The winter season is still in the setting in phase and the minimum temperature range in Jharkhand which is between 13 degree Celsius to around 16- 17 degree Celsius is also normal for this time of the year,” said Director MET Centre, Ranchi Abhishek Anand.

As per the bulletin released by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi on Friday evening, in the last 24 hours, the minimum temperature in Ranchi was observed at 14.2 degree Celsius while Jamshedpur and Daltonganj were recorded at 16.2 and 14.6 degree Celsius respectively. The lowest temperature in the State was recorded in Garhwa at 12.7 degree Celsius.

The bulletin further stated that from November 16 to November 19, the maximum temperature in the State capital and its surrounding areas will be around 27 degree Celsius. The minimum temperature during this period will be around 13 to 14 degree Celsius.
