Rape accused shot in Bareilly

Thursday, 01 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

In a sensational killing, a rape accused was shot dead on Tuesday night in Mirapur village under Fatehganj West police station of Bareilly.

The police station remained unaware of the killing till late midnight.

Mirapur resident Dharampal revealed that five years ago a person had lodged a report against his brother Tinku, accusing him of raping his daughter.

Tinku had come out on bail in this case. For a long time he stayed outside the village and plied a handcart. He had come to the village only a few days ago.

Dharampal alleged that Tinku was sitting at the door of the house at 11 pm on Tuesday night and other family members were on the roof when the father of the rape victim reached there and opened fire at Tinku, injuring him critically.

When the family members came down after hearing the sound of firing, the accused was again loading cartridges in the pistol but sensing trouble, he ran away.

The family members immediately rushed injured Tinku to the district hospital, where the doctor pronounced him dead.

Dharampal said that his brother was implicated in a false rape case. He could not inform the police while taking Tinku to the hospital.

Inspector Dhananjay Pandey said that there was no information about the incident. Only when the family reached the district hospital, they informed him after which he along with senior officers visited the spot and also met the family in the hospital.

He said that a case would be registered. Police teams have been formed to arrest the accused father of the alleged rape victim.
