A low pressure system is forming in the Bay of Bengal, the effect of which will be seen in Jharkhand as well in the coming days. Light to moderate showers are being predicted in the southern and central parts of the State till October 18.
On October 16, parts of Jamshedpur, Chaibasa, Simdega and Saraikela are likely to witness rain while the State capital and its adjoining areas, districts of Bokaro, Khunti, Gumla, Hazaribagh and Ramgarh may receive rainfall on October 117 and 18.
“The rainfall being predicted is due to the incoming easterly component in south and central Jharkhand- the incoming winds from Bay of Bengal are carrying moisture. This is because the low pressure area over central part Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a depression and move west- northwards towards north Tamil Nadu,” said Director MET Centre, Ranchi Abhishek Anand.
The department has also predicted that about two to three spells of low to moderate rainfall can be witnessed during a day. The maximum temperature is also likely to come down by a few degrees due to the cloud cover and rainfall. From October 19 dry weather conditions are being expected.
The bulletin shared by the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi stated that the southwest monsoon has withdrawn from the entire country on October 15 and that from Jharkhand on October 13.
“The southern part of the country especially Tamil Nadu witnesses Northwest Monsoon or Retreating Monsoon and this is also when the southern state receives maximum rainfall- about 90 percent. Due to this, the low pressure system is likely to form into a depression. The cloud bank and moisture is moving west- northwards and hence Jharkhand is experiencing rain. The northern parts of Jharkhand will not receive any showers,” further explained the official.
