Rains bring relief, joy to wildlife in PTR

Thursday, 04 July 2024 | PNS | DALTONGANJ

Rains have brought immense relief to the wild life in the tiger reserve Palamu.

Kumar Ashish deputy director south division of the PTR said "The Monsoon came late. But the rains have begun to give a new lease of life to our grasslands."

Ashish said grass lands wither in acute and severe summer and the summer of 2024 was very terrible for humans and wildlife and grasslands.

He referred to the death of 32 monkeys in a well under the Panki block as the most saddest of all the tragedies that this 2024 summer had brought in.

He said grass lands wore a barren look but with rains now new grasses are sprouting. Teno grass land is refreshed now.

Around 100 check dams in the south division of the PTR are finding water now.

There are streams still which have not yet revived but some of the streams have started having flow of water.

On being asked as to when deer and other animals like gour, sambhars etc numbering 360 will start coming over to the PTR from Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park Ormanjhi to which Ashish said "We are watching the trend of the rains. It's good. There will be greenery around very soon."

"Space and habitat for deer and other animals is ready for the arrivals from the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park. We hope to start bringing in on / from July 15" said Ashish.

PTR now has a state of the art BOMA truck. It will be used in transferring animals from the Bhagwan Birsa Biological Park."

This IFS officer Ashish is on a very important mission. The mission is resettlement and rehabilitation of the 56 householders of Kujrum village located in the core area of the PTR.

Their resettlement and rehabilitation is at Polpol in Palamu. 23 households have begun their process of resettlement at Polpol. 33 others are in a fix to go or not to go.

DC Palamu Shashi Ranjan has assured the households at Polpol a free stamp fee registration for their land, record of rights of land, entry of their land in register 2 besides a slew of state and central government's welfare and developmental schemes which were inaccessible to them when these households were living in the core area of the PTR Kujrum.
