Police sub-inspector arrested in IPL area manager’s suicide case

Sub Inspector Gaurav Raghuvanshi, accused in the abetment to suicide case of an area manager of a company arrested, while the relatives of the SI said that the police have described the surrender as arrest.

Police said on November 30, 2023, Manoj Raghuvanshi (40), area manager of Indian Potash Limited (IPL), committed suicide. At the time of the incident, Gaurav Raghuvanshi was the station in-charge of Vidisha Kotwali. The police have also arrested Manoj's wife Jyoti and brother-in-law Pintu alias Devendra. All three had reached Bhopal court on Thursday afternoon to surrender.

Ayodhya Nagar SHO Mahesh Lilhare said that all three were caught from outside the court before surrender. On Thursday evening, the accused were produced in the court after medical and taken on three-day remand. Important evidence related to the case is to be seized on the identification of the three. Along with this, inquiries will also be made about where and with whom the accused spent their abscondence.

Seven people were made accused in the case. Out of these, Geeta Raghuvanshi, Kanti Bai, Tinku alias Avinash and retired ASI Ram Singh have been granted bail by the Supreme Court.

SI Gaurav Raghuvanshi, Jyoti Raghuvanshi and Pintu alias Devendra surrendered in the court of Mridul Latoria Judicial Magistrate First Class on 26 June. The court ordered the station in-charge and the investigating officer to appear in the court the next day on 27 June at 12 noon. During this time, the police had sought remand of all three for interrogation. Approving the remand, the court handed over all three to the police till 1 July. Dainik Bhaskar has its order sheet. SI Gaurav's elder brother Avinash Raghuvanshi said - Gaurav, Jyoti and Pintu have surrendered. Police's claims of arrest from the court are completely wrong. The court itself summoned the diary and handed over the three to TI Mahesh Lilhare and investigator Vijay Kalchuri.

On November 30, 2023, Manoj committed suicide in his Ayodhya Nagar house. He had written in the suicide note that I do not want to die. Wife, her cousin, brother and maternal uncle-aunt forced me. Because of them I am committing suicide.

These people have taken lakhs of rupees from me. Wife puts pressure that I will let the son meet you only when you take a share in the property from your mother and transfer it to the child's name. I love my son Akshay very much. Brother, you keep all the property. Don't give anything to the wife... nothing.

In this case, a suicide video also surfaced. After a long investigation, the police had registered a case of abetment to suicide on March 1, 2024 against 6 people including Manoj Raghuvanshi's brother-in-law, the then station in-charge and sub-inspector Gaurav Raghuvanshi for abetting suicide.

Before committing suicide, Manoj had shot a 6-minute video on his mobile phone. In which he has talked about committing suicide after getting fed up with the harassment of his wife Jyoti and her 6 relatives. The police had also seized this video. Along with this, the police also found a handwritten suicide note from Manoj. In which he had also written the password of his mobile.

On April 9, 2024, Bhopal Zone-2 Superintendent Shraddha Tiwari announced a reward of Rs 5,000 for giving information about the accused. On April 19, Manoj Raghuvanshi's mother had given a complaint application to the Police Commissioner demanding the arrest of the accused. After this, the accused could not be arrested.
