The police on Monday arrested three gang members including a teenager accused of robbery, embezzlement, theft and other serious crimes. The accused were identified as Dehradun resident Deependra Singh (23), Tehri resident Akash Rawat (23) and Dehradun resident Ayush Bisht (18). The Dehradun police arrested them on charges of committing theft in a house in the Patelnagar area on February 16. They allegedly stole diamond, gold and silver jewellery along with two mobile phones and other valuable items worth lakhs of rupees, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He said that a team was formed with the aim to arrest the thieves along with the stolen items. The team started analysing the footage of about 150 CCTV cameras installed around the victim’s house to identify suspects. Besides this, the police also activated a local informer system to catch the accused. The police found three persons in the CCTV footage that they found suspicious. The police started investigating them and it was revealed that they were also involved in such crimes in the past as well. The police arrested them on the informer’s tip on Monday from the fields near a government school behind Rajrajeshwari Colony. The police have claimed to recover almost all the stolen goods from the complainant’s house. He said that the accused were presented in the court the same day. The SSP said that the arrested accused Deependra is a notorious criminal against whom several cases have been registered in Patelnagar police station and other police stations across the district for robbery, theft, stabbing, and murderous assault besides the cases under the Arms Act.
