The state-owned National Mineral Development Corp (NMDC) on Wednesday set up a panel to probe a mine cave-in at its Kirandul complex in Chhattisgarh.
A NMDC official said it was investigating the incident of rock formation collapse at one of its sites in Dantewada district which killed four contractual workers and injured two others. On Tuesday, the four died in the NMDC's Kirandul complex.
"NMDC is conducting a thorough investigation into the incident. In the wake of this unfortunate event, the senior management of NMDC extended its deepest condolences and support to the bereaved families," the firm said.
The two contractual workmen who were injured are being treated at the NMDC Hospital and are out of danger, the company added.
NMDC, under the ministry of steel, is the country's largest iron ore mining entity contributing around 20 per cent of India's demand for the key steel making raw material.
