The Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal hosted a delegation of students from the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) for an enriching academic visit from November 27 to 30, 2024.
This initiative aimed to enhance the students' understanding of forensic applications within clinical and medico-legal contexts, fostering deeper insights into the practical aspects of forensic science.
The academic visit was made possible with the strong support and patronage of Prof. (Dr.) Ajai Singh, the Executive Director of AIIMS Bhopal, whose leadership was instrumental in ensuring the successful execution of this valuable initiative.
The visit concluded with a commitment from both institutions for future collaborations, including joint workshops, research initiatives, and academic exchange programs. Both AIIMS Bhopal and NFSU are in the process of signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their academic and research collaboration. In his remarks, Prof Singh expressed his enthusiasm about the collaboration and the potential for future academic exchanges. "This initiative marks a significant step in strengthening the ties between AIIMS Bhopal and NFSU. Our goal is to ensure that students not only acquire theoretical knowledge but also gain hands-on experience, preparing them for future challenges in forensic science and medico-legal practice.
Dr. Arneet Arora, Head of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology at AIIMS Bhopal, shared, "Such visits are vital in bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and its practical application in the field of forensic medicine."
One of the participants added, "This visit has broadened our perspective on how forensic medicine complements the judicial process and public health."
The visit began with a formal welcome by Additional Professor Dr. Atul S. Keche, who emphasized the department's critical role in forensic investigations, medico-legal research, and its contributions to both healthcare and law enforcement.
Senior Resident Dr. Divya Bhushan, along with Junior Residents Dr. Suhail, Dr. Sashikanta, Dr. Ajeet, Dr. Diksha, Dr. Abarnna, Dr. Krishna Gopal, and Arun of the Department of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, conducted a series of practical demonstrations to illustrate the application of forensic science in medical investigations.
Students were introduced to the integration of forensic science in autopsy procedures, trauma analysis, and toxicological evaluations. They also attended a session on autopsy techniques, focusing on injury identification and cause-of-death analysis. Modern toxicological analysis techniques, including the detection of poisons and drugs in biological samples, were also covered, highlighting their significance in solving medico-legal cases.
The visit featured an interactive discussion between faculty and students, where emerging trends in forensic medicine, the role of advanced diagnostic tools, and interdisciplinary approaches to solving complex legal cases were explored.
