Modi pledges to take strict action against corruption in third term

Wednesday, 29 May 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Accusing the ruling Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) and the Congress party in Jharkhand of having ‘looted the state’, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that action against the corrupt would be intensified after June 4 when the results of the ongoing general elections would be declared.

Modi’s remark comes at a time when former chief minister Hemant Soren is in jail and rural development minister and senior Congress leader Alamgir Alam is in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with alleged land and tender scam, respectively. Dumka is the family bastion of Sorens, from where Hemant’s sister-in-law, Sita Soren, is contesting on a BJP ticket.

Addressing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)’s Mahavijay Sankalp Rally at Dumka in tribal-dominated Santhal Parganas division in the state, PM Modi accused the JMM government in Jharkhand of diverting resources sent by the Centre to the black market. "The JMM has snatched the food from your plate. Instead of the free ration from Delhi reaching you, it ends up in the black market without getting to you directly," he said. Accusing JMM of looting Jharkhand in every possible way, the prime minister said, “JMM, Congress, RJD are openly and shamelessly threatening, saying Modi should be removed. Why? Because they once again want an opportunity to do scams. JMM and Congress are looting Jharkhand in every possible way."

Modi also alleged that the tribal population in the area was decreasing due to an influx of infiltrators from Bangladesh. Taking a swipe at the ruling JMM, the prime minister said, "Now, the problem of infiltrators has arisen as a big problem in Jharkhand. As a result, the number of tribals is rapidly decreasing in many areas and the number of infiltrators is increasing. The safety and lives of tribal daughters have come into danger. Who are these infiltrators who are a threat to our daughters? Why is the JMM shielding them?"

PM Modi counted his blessings and reiterated his commitment to a Viksit Bharat, vowing to prevent any opposition forces from derailing this vision, "You blessed Modi in 2014 when the whole country was fed up with Congress's misrule. Remember the daily scams? Congress looted money in the name of the poor. Modi came and stopped all that. Today, public money is used for public interest. Our mothers and sisters, neglected by previous governments, were uplifted by Modi. We changed their lives and solved their problems.

PM Modi outlined his future plans for a Viksit and prosperous Bharat, urging the people to continue their support for transformative progress, he remarked, "The work we've accomplished in the past 10 years must be taken further in the next 5 years. We will make 3 crore mothers and sisters 'Lakhpati Didis.' After forming the government, we will provide new and permanent houses to 3 crore more poor. To eliminate your electricity bills, I've launched the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana, for installing solar panels on your homes. You will use the electricity generated at home and earn money by selling the surplus to the government."
