Expressing dissatisfaction with officials over permanently parked vehicles at the multi-level parking facility at the busy Ibrahimpura market, Mayor Malti Rai on Monday instructed them to expedite the removal of such vehicles.
The Mayor, who was on a surprise inspection of Wards 2, 4, and 5, emphasised the need for better cleanliness and directed that the city profile recording be completed by November 20.
The Mayor inspected various areas, including Moti Masjid, Iqbal Maidan, Royal Market, GAD Chowk, Shaheed Nagar, Hamidia Road, Railway Station, and others. She ordered the removal of street vendors and goods obstructing public spaces and called for the immediate recording of City Profiles in specific wards.
Rai's visit follows media reports that had criticised the civic administration for allowing handcarts to encroach on the area, causing delays for citizens due to traffic snarls and even accidents.Additionally, she warned of spot fines for washing cars on roads and directed action against property owners violating construction norms and dumping materials on roads.
Residents in the area welcomed the action and said that a large number of outsiders, especially those visiting teahouses that dot the road connecting Iqbal Maidan to Imami Gate, disrupt traffic by parking their vehicles indiscriminately. Traffic in the area remains affected late into the night, with improper parking causing bottlenecks at various places, including near Hamidia Hospital, the main medical facility in the city.
