In the midst of expanding efforts to curb ambient air pollution in the city, 39 Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) vehicles participated in an awareness rally, flagged off by Mayor Malti Rai on Tuesday.
The rally, which started at Polytechnic Square and passed through Bharat Mata Chouraha, Jawahar Square, Rangmahal, Roshanpura, Apex Bank Tiraaha, Link Road No. 01, and 1250 Hospital Square, concluded at Vallabh Bhavan.
Municipal workers driving 25 jet-spray-equipped vehicles, 10 road sweepers, and four fogging machines sprayed water, bringing down stagnating particulate matter levels along the route.
Several elected representatives and BMC officials, including Municipal Commissioner Harendra Narayan, participated in the event.
Speaking at the start of the rally, Mayor Rai said that the rally was organised not only to improve air quality but also to raise awareness regarding city cleanliness and sewage cleaning.
She claimed that both elected representatives and BMC officials and staff were working in close coordination to improve the city’s cleanliness and air quality.
She encouraged the participation of city residents, while expressing confidence that public involvement would soon see Bhopal emerge at the top of the cleanliness table in the country.
These vehicles carried banners promoting air quality improvement, environmental protection, and cleanliness.
In recent weeks, the BMC has initiated a raft of measures to curb the presence of contaminants in breathable air in the state capital.
The city traditionally witnesses a spike in air pollution during the winter months due to meteorological factors that result in greater concentration of pollutants.
After years on the back burner, the city administration is vowing to step up the fight against the hazardous presence of toxins in the air.
