A 20-year-old man lost his life in an alleged dispute for asking a 'beedi' in Jwala Nagar of Delhi's Shahdara after he was struck by a stone in his head.
According to the police on Friday, the victim had requested a 'beedi' (hand-rolled cigarette) from a local near Jwala Nagar samshan ghat (crematorium) which led to an argument that escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in death of the man. The deceased has been identified as Sunny, who had previously been involved as a juvenile in a case of murder registered against him in Vivek Vihar area. Police have nabbed the accused, identified as Rajesh and started further investigation to know more about the brawl.
Sharing facts about the incident, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said, "On Thursday, a PCR call was received at Vivek Vihar police station from an ambulance stating that one person was found unconscious near shamshan ghat in Jwala Nagar and on checking the person was found dead."
He added that the team from the police station was immediately rushed to the spot and one boy was found dead. “He was later identified as Sunny, a resident of Kasturba Nagar area,” said the DCP.
He said that blood was oozing out of his nose and the spot was inspected by crime team and forensic science team.
“The dead body was preserved in Subzi Mandi mortuary and was handed over to his family members after postmortem.
During inquiry and detailed investigation, team nabbed one Rajesh, a resident of Jwala Nagar as the main suspect of the case," said the DCP.
Rajesh told police that Sunny approached him and asked to provide him a 'beedi'. "This request enraged him and a verbal spat broke out between both of them, leading to a physical confrontation," he said.
“On detailed investigation it was disclosed that both sustained injuries during the quarrel, which escalated rapidly. In a fit of rage, Rajesh picked up a large stone and struck Sunny, delivering a fatal blow.
This severe impact resulted in blunt force trauma, causing Sunny's death on the spot,” said the DCP.
According to the police, Sunny, had a history of involvement. He had previously been involved as a juvenile in a murder case and Arms Act.
"We have registered an FIR under section 103(1) of the BNS at Vivek Vihar police station. Alleged Rajesh was taken in custody, investigation going on for collecting more evidences and ascertain more details about the brawl occurred between both of them," he added.
