JMM seeks cancellation of Tiwari's nomination from ECI

Tuesday, 29 October 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

Amidst the election fervour in Jharkhand, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), on Monday, has attacked the Election Commission of India (ECI) and demanded that the nomination form of BJP candidate Satyendra Nath Tiwari from Garhwa be cancelled.

Addressing a press meet, JMM General Secretary cum Spokesperson Supriyo Bhattacharya said that he has given incomplete information in the nomination form. Along with this, he levelled many serious allegations against the ECI. He has claimed that the ECI says that the BJP's form should not be rejected.

Bhattacharya said that information has been received from sources that an officer of the ECI has told the district election officer that if it is the BJP's form, it will not be rejected whereas if there is any deficiency in the form of any other party, it has to be rejected immediately. He said that earlier such a case was limited to Ranchi but now such a situation is being seen in many seats of Jharkhand.

The JMM Spokesperson said that the front has full faith in the law. "With this faith, they demand that the ECI should examine the nomination papers of Satyendra Nath Tiwari in an impartial manner and give a decision," he added. He said that if this does not happen within 24 hours, then JMM will resort to law to cancel his nomination.

Bhattacharya said that the ECI has said that everyone will be given equal opportunity but now it is clear that it is working for one party. He alleged that when BJP candidate from Garhwa assembly constituency Satyendra Nath Tiwari filled his Form 26 affidavit, many columns were left blank whereas the commission had earlier made it clear that no column should be blank. A promise was made to ensure that there is no fraud of any kind, he added.

The JMM General Secretary said that the candidate filing nomination should not have any kind of dues of the Government. On this, he said that the Government's dues mean there should be no dues of housing. There should also be no pending water bill and all bills of the last 10 years should be deposited. He said, but when he was an MLA in 2019, he was given a room from the Vidhan Sabha. "Tiwari was given a house in Sector 2 but when he is contesting the elections in 2024, he has not informed about it when the election officer was informed about this matter, the officer refused to accept it," he added.
