The last day for nominations on Wednesday here in Dhanbad surprises many as in two cases father son duo are in fray for the same assembly segments.
The 2024 assembly election is really special as a new trend is being seen in Tundi and Jharia assembly constituencies of Dhanbad district as father and son will face each other. In Tundi, JMM candidate Mathura Prasad Mahato will be facing his son Dinesh Mahato, on Jharia seat Rustam Ansari is all set to face his son Saddam alias Banti Hussain.
In Tundi assembly, Dinesh Mahato, who is an independent candidate has filed nomination against JMM candidate Mathura Prasad Mahato, while on Jharia seat, father Rustam Ansari has filed nomination as JLKM candidate faces independent candidate son Saddam. What is the reason behind the nomination of sons against the fathers would be clear with time.
Jharia assembly constituency has another interesting batlle. As seen in 2019 this election there will be an electoral battle between cousin sister-in-laws this time too.
After 1977, Surya Dev Singh was MLA from Jharia four successive times. After his death, his wife Kunti Singh was MLA twice and his son Sanjeev once. Surya Dev Singh's brother Bachcha Singh also became a minister in Jharkhand after becoming MLA from Jharia. Currently, Purnima Neeraj Singh daughter in law of one of the four brothers of Surya Deo Singh is MLA. Contesting Jharia on Congress ticket happens to be wife of former deputy mayor Neeraj Singh, cousin brother of Sanjeev . In 2019 also, there was an electoral battle between sister-in-laws in which Purnima Neeraj Singh got 79,786 votes while Ragini Singh lost the election. Now both once again are in fray.
