Punjab to Build 1,000 New Anganwadi Centers to Boost Child and Mother Care
Chandigarh: To improve child and maternal care, Punjab Government on Thursday announced the construction of 1,000 new Anganwadi centers across the state. The project, spearheaded by the Social Security, Women, and Child Development Minister Dr Baljit Kaur, will be implemented under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). Each new center will be built at a cost of Rs 12 lakh, with a focus on creating a child- and mother-friendly environment. The centers will feature upgraded flooring, plumbing, painting, electrification, and woodwork to ensure a safe and functional space for early childhood development. Minister said that so far, 53 centers have been completed, and the government is also upgrading 350 existing centers to improve service delivery. These upgrades are expected to be completed by January 31, 2025.
Punjab Becomes First State to Resolve NRI Complaints Online
Chandigarh: Punjab has taken a historic step, becoming the first state in India to offer an online platform for resolving complaints from NRI Punjabis. Launched in December 2024, the “Online NRI Milni’ initiative allows NRIs to register issues related to Punjab directly with the NRI Department’s minister, senior officers, and police officials. This effort is part of the Punjab Government’s ongoing commitment to quickly and effectively address the grievances of overseas Punjabis. The state has prioritized resolving NRI complaints, including those related to the Revenue and Police Departments. As part of the program, district-level civil and police officials are tasked with addressing issues promptly.
Punjab Cabinet Sub-Committee Meets Employee Unions
Chandigarh: To address the pressing concerns of state employees, the Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema and NRI Affairs Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, met with representatives from several unions on Thursday. The gathering focused on resolving critical issues affecting workers across various sectors. Union representatives from Powercom CHB Lineman Theka Mulazan Union, Sarb Sikhiya Abhiyan Mid-Day Meal Daftri Mulazm Union, and Adarsh School Teaching Non-Teaching Mulazam Union presented their memorandums, outlining key demands related to job security, working conditions, and other essential welfare matters. Throughout the meeting, the Ministers engaged in thorough discussions with the union leaders, assuring them that many of their concerns were already being addressed.
