Haryana Police forms teams to probe liquor trader’s murder in Murthal
Chandigarh: Haryana Police has formed eight teams to investigate the murder of a liquor trader who was allegedly shot dead by two assailants in Sonepat district, an official said on Monday.
The incident took place on Sunday when Sunder Malik alighted from his car at a parking lot outside an eatery in Murthal. The two assailants fired indiscriminately at Malik, killing him on the spot, they said. Malik, a resident of Sonepat district, was earlier booked in more than 10 cases, including murder and other offences. CCTV footage of the incident showed the accused rushing towards Malik’s vehicle with weapons and shooting him multiple times as soon as he came out. The duo then fled the spot. Later, gangster Himanshu Bhau claimed responsibility for the murder in an unverified social media post. A police official on Monday said eight teams have been formed to probe Malik’s murder case.
Haryana CM approves improvement of 10 ODR roads in Kaithal
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday granted administrative sanction for the special repair and improvement of 10 ODR roads in Guhla, Kaithal District. This project will cost over Rs. 8.76 crore. The roads serving rural areas of production and providing them with outlet to market centres, tehsil headquarters, block development headquarters, railway stations etc. are known as Other District Roads (ODRs), said a spokesperson.
District Welfare Officer in Hry arrested for taking a bribe of Rs 40,000
Chandigarh: The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested District Welfare Officer (DWO) Lalchand red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 40,000 in Fatehabad district. The bribe was demanded through a private person, Ravinder Singh. An ACB spokesperson said that the ACB team laid a trap to nab the accused on the basis of information and was successful in catching him red-handed.
Banks, Post Offices to create voter awareness; says Haryana CEO
Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Agarwal on Monday said that in the upcoming Lok Sabha general elections, every eligible voter must exercise their franchise. For this purpose, the Election Commission of India has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) and the Department of Posts to amplify its voter outreach and awareness efforts. The key objective is to convey the message to voters that the election festival is a matter of pride for the nation. The Election Commission and the election officials of states and Union territories are just mediators in this festival of democracy; the real strength lies with the voters, said Agarwal while presiding over a meeting with the officers regarding the preparations for the Lok Sabha 2024 general elections.
