Chief Electoral Officer K Ravi Kumar has said that the instructions of the Election Commission were not followed during checking at the check post in Dumri, Giridih on Sunday. Video recording of the entire incident was not done. Whereas, the Election Commission has a clear directive that video recording has to be done during vehicle checking for transparency. If no objectionable material is found during the investigation, then no one can be detained.
He said that the investigation report of the Commissioner of North Chotanagpur has been received in the entire matter. It has been forwarded to the Election Commission of India for further action. He was addressing a press conference at Nirvachan Sadan, Dhurva on Monday.
He said that the scrutiny of nominations of candidates was done on Monday for the first phase of elections. In the case of some people, notices have been issued and they have been given time by the concerned Returning Officer to present their side till 11 am on Tuesday. In response to a question, he said that this time a total of 57 new booths have been made for the assembly elections. The Election Commission has clearly instructed that the distance of booth from residence should not be more than 2 km.
He informed that since the implementation of Model Code of Conduct in the state, illegal goods and cash worth Rs. 86.33 crores have been seized till now. At the same time, the process of taking action is underway by registering a total of 20 FIRs against violation of Model Code of Conduct.
Meanwhile, many efforts are being made continuously by the Chief Electoral Officer's office to maximize the voting percentage of the state in the Assembly elections 2024. In the same sequence, as an innovative effort, a campaign was run by school children in coordination with the Education Department tomorrow, Monday, 28 October. Under this campaign, school children wrote letters to their parents / guardians between 11 am to 12 am and make a passionate appeal for compulsory voting.
Kumar said that the appeal of children will not only have a deep impact on the parents but it will also sow the seeds of democratic values in children, because today's children are our voters of tomorrow.
Notably, more than 17 lakh students participated in the #MummyPapaVoteDo mega campaign and wrote appeal letters to their parents.
