The Indian Institute of Architects (IIA), Bhopal Centre organized an insightful event on Friday, 25 October 2024, titled “Artificial Intelligence: Impact of AI on the Role of an Architect.”
The event, held at Safal Retreat in collaboration with global firms Foster + Partners and Turner & Townsend, brought together architects, designers, and technical experts to explore the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the field of architecture.Architect Akshay Selukar, Chairman of IIA Bhopal Chapter, welcomed the attendees and emphasized the need to focus on the transformative future shaped by Artificial Intelligence.
He stated, “AI is no longer the future, it is the present, and architects must embrace its potential to innovate and move forward.”
The keynote speakers, Victor Garcia (Associate, Foster + Partners) and Ignacio Diaz-Maroto Rivas (Digital Specialist, Turner & Townsend), who came from London shared their insights on how AI is set to revolutionize architecture.
Victor Garcia discussed his experiences with BIM (Building Information Modeling) and explained how AI can streamline design processes and enhance creativity.
Ignacio Diaz-Maroto Rivas highlighted how AI can serve as a tool and collaborator in the design process, driving transformative changes in project management and design execution.
The event's central focus was on the potential of AI to automate repetitive tasks, allowing architects to focus on more creative and strategic design work. The speakers also discussed how AI will collaborate with human architects, enhancing their capabilities rather than replacing them.
Over 150 professionals participated in the event, actively engaging in discussions and delving deeper into the impact of AI on architecture during a comprehensive Q&A session.In light of the upcoming Diwali festival, all architects and attendees wore traditional ethnic attire, adding a festive touch to the event.
The evening concluded with a Diwali celebration, blending technology with tradition in a unique way. At the close of the event, Architect Akshay Selukar expressed his gratitude to the speakers and attendees, stating, “As we embrace the future with AI, staying connected to our cultural roots is equally important. This Diwali celebration was a symbol of that balance.”The event marked a significant milestone for the Indian Institute of Architects (IIA) Bhopal, showcasing their commitment to discussing the growing role of technology in the future of architecture.
