Leader of INDIA block in Jharkhand cum Executive president of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) Hemant Soren, was sworn in as Jharkhand’s 14th Chief Minister here on Thursday. The grand oath-taking ceremony, held at the historic Morhabadi Ground in Ranchi, marked a significant moment in Jharkhand's political landscape. The 49-year-old tribal leader’s swearing-in was attended by several high-profile leaders from the INDIA bloc, emphasizing the event's political importance on a national scale.
Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar administered the oath of office and secrecy to the three-time former Chief Minister at a grand ceremony organised at the Morhabadi ground. The ceremony was graced by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi, AAP leaders Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, RJD leader Tejaswi Yadav and many senior leaders of the INDIA bloc. Their presence not only underscored the unity within the INDIA bloc but also highlighted the significance of Soren's leadership for the alliance.
Before the ceremony, Soren took blessings from his father and JMM president Shibu Soren and his mother Rupi Soren. The gesture reflected the importance of familial and tribal traditions in Soren's political journey. His fourth term as Chief Minister cements his position as one of the most influential political leaders in the state, with a strong support base among the tribal communities and rural electorate.
Soren's resounding victory in the recent assembly elections was a testament to his enduring appeal. He retained his Barhait constituency by defeating BJP’s Gamliyel Hembrom with a significant margin of 39,791 votes. This triumph was part of the larger success of the JMM-led alliance, which included the Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD).
Together, the alliance won 56 seats in the 81-member assembly, leaving the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) with just 24 seats. The election results highlighted the dominance of the JMM-Congress-RJD coalition and its ability to resonate with Jharkhand’s electorate.
The INDIA bloc's prominent presence at the swearing-in also signified its growing influence and strategic importance in regional politics. The alliance's focus on tribal welfare and grassroots issues has been a key factor in its success in Jharkhand, a state with a significant tribal population.
As Soren begins another term, expectations are high for his administration to address pressing challenges. Key priorities include tackling unemployment, improving infrastructure, and enhancing welfare programs for tribal communities. With a strong mandate and a supportive alliance, Soren’s leadership will play a critical role in shaping Jharkhand’s development trajectory over the coming years. The swearing-in ceremony thus not only marked a political milestone but also set the tone for renewed governance in the state.
