Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, met the bereaved families of the Hathras stampede on Friday. He expressed concern over administrative deficiencies and urged Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath to provide generous compensation to the affected families.

Rahul Gandhi said, “The compensation should be right. I request the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh to give compensation generously. Compensation should be given as soon as possible. I have talked to the family members,”

He also targeted the local administration and claimed that their failure was also evidence as they did not take any measures despite sanctioning the permission to the self-styled godman to give sermons.

Subhash Chandra, son of Munni Devi who lost her life in the stampede, said that Rahul Gandhi talked to them, consoled the entire family and tried to understand the whole incident. He said that Bhole Baba was responsible for the whole incident and there was a lack of a system there.

“Baba ran away. He should have helped the people instead of running away. Now my family will never go to his satsang,” Chandra said. He also alleged lack of medical facilities which led to so many deaths.

He said Rahul Gandhi had assured them that he would raise the matter in Parliament and support them.

A girl who lost her mother in the tragedy broke down before Rahul Gandhi. The Congress leader hugged her and consoled her, promising that they would take full care of her.

Congress Member of Parliament Rahul Gandhi on Friday reached the homes of the victims who lost their lives in the Hathras stampede. He sat on the floor and met the bereaved families of the deceased and consoled them.

Rahul Gandhi reached Pilkhana in Aligarh early in the morning by road from Delhi. He consoled the bereaved family members of Manju who died in the Hathras stampede, her six-year-old son Pankaj and Shanti Devi and Premvati of another family.

Later he left for Hathras and met other bereaved families at Green Park locality.

Talking to media persons, Rahul Gandhi said that the families were shocked and facing a trauma after losing their near and dear ones. He said that the families claimed before him that the incident took place due to negligence of the local administration.

“I just want to appeal to the chief minister (of UP) to give generous compensation to the families of the victims as early as possible and also take stern action against those responsible for the deaths,” he said.

Rahul Gandhi also asserted before the media that he would raise the issue in Parliament.
