Birthday celebration turned into a tragic affair in southwest Delhi’s Satya Niketan area as the Delhi Police arrested five men who had come to the café in the posh area and opened fire after a scuffle with the owner of the place.
According to the police on Monday, a shot was fired at the cafe on Sunday following an argument over seating. The police had arrested two accused, both 26 years old, Ahmed and Aurangzeb alias Mangal alias Monu shortly after the incident.
“A PCR call at about 8:48 pm regarding firing at Satya Niketan was received at South campus police station and immediately the beat staff who was on patrol nabbed one of the accused after a hot chase. He was identified as Ahmed, resident of Jhangir Puri and was working as paneer vendor in Jahangirpuri,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Rohit Meena said, adding that other staff and forensic team also arrived at the spot. Further, the police also nabbed Aurangzeb, who sells footwear, at a petrol pump in Jhangir Puri.
On Monday, they arrested 20 year old Atul, 23 year old Javed, who was previously involved in six cases and 19 year old Adil. All are residents of Jahangir puri and had come from there for a birthday celebration, according to the initial investigation.
Meena said the SUV Thar car the accused arrived in and the illegal firearm used in the shooting had been confiscated. “Vehicle Thar used in the crime was recovered from accused Aurangzeb. Illegal firearm which was used in the incident was also recovered from accused Javed. We recovered a 7.65 mm pistol with five live rounds,” he said.
