FIR against Doc on 'snake bite'

 In the connection of death of a youth by snake bite in Majhiaon of the district, the police have registered an FIR against Dr. Raju Kumar Das, a doctor of CHC Majhiaon. On the application of the father of the deceased, the FIR has been registered under section of 304 and 166 IPC.

 

 Other hand, IMA and Jhasa have opposed the FIR by holding a joint meeting and have warned of agitation.

 

According to the police sources, on the late evening of 27 June 2024, the snake had bitten to the, resident of Gaheri village located in ward number four of Nagar Panchayat under Majhiaon police station area on Thursday night. He was taken to CHC Majhiaon.  According to the relatives of the deceased, Dr. Raju Kumar Das, who was on duty at CHC on that day then, did not provide proper treatment to him despite anti-venom injection being available in the hospital and referred him from there. While he died while being taken outside for treatment. After this, after getting his body after post-mortem , the relatives of the deceased reached CHC Majhiaon on 28 June 2024 and created a ruckus demanding action against the doctor and blocked the road. Later, on the application of the deceased's father Paras Nath Mehta, a case has been registered against CHC doctor Dr. Raju Kumar Das in Majhiaon police station.

 

Majhiaon police station in-charge Akash Kumar has confirmed the FIR and said that an FIR has been registered under Section 304 and 166 of the IPC on the application of the deceased's father Paras Nath Mehta. Further investigation is underway. 

 

On the other hand, IMA and Jhasa held a joint meeting on Sunday under the chairmanship of IMA President Dr. Nandkishore Rajak. The doctors present in the meeting opposed the FIR lodged against CHC Majhiaon doctor Dr. Raju Kumar Das in Majhiaon police station. It was decided to meet the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police regarding the said matter. Also, the doctors have warned of agitation if action is not taken within 24 hours.

 

The doctors said that if FIRs continue to be lodged like this, doctors will not be able to work in the coming days. Incidents of assault on doctors are happening every day in the district. If this situation remains, the doctors will go on an indefinite strike.  IMA's Garhwa district unit president Dr. Nandkishore Rajak said that the Supreme Court has said in a decision that a complaint against any doctor cannot be considered until the negligence of the accused doctor is confirmed through investigation by a competent doctor. Action can be taken against that doctor only after taking the opinion of expert doctors. The Supreme Court has also warned in its decision that it is illegal to harass or arrest a doctor unless the facts clearly fall within the prescribed criteria.

 

Jhasa's Garhwa district unit secretary Dr. T Piyush, Dr. Amit Kumar, Dr. RNS Diwakar, Dr. Arshad Ansari, Dr. Manish Kumar Singh, Dr. Kush Kumar, Dr. Snehlata Raj, Dr. Maheru Yamani, Dr. Ravi Kumar etc. were present in the meeting.
