A father-son duo was arrested for attacking a Delhi Police inspector and a constable after officers stopped their Bullet motorcycle and objected to its modified noisy silencer in southeast Delhi’s Jamia Nagar. According to police, both the accused have been arrested. The incident took place on Saturday when Station House Officer (SHO), Inspector Narpal Singh of the Jamia Nagar police station was on night patrol with his team.

The police on Monday said that both the accused have been arrested, who have been identified as 24 year old son Asif and father Riyazuddin. The fateful incident intervened on Saturday at 8:45 pm when a Royal Enfield motorcycle was making excessive noise beyond the permissible levels.

According to a video that surfaced on social media, the fight broke out Saturday evening when the local SHO, along with two constables, stopped a Royal Enfield motorcycle for an exhaust check. The video showed SHO Narpal Singh asking the man to rev his motorcycle to check the bike's exhaust, certain types being banned in the city for noise pollution

“On Saturday, Inspector Narpal Singh, SHO of Jamia Nagar police station, along with team was on patrolling duty in the area. At about 8.45 pm, while he along with the patrolling staff reached Batla House in Jamia Nagar, he noticed a Bullet motorcycle, heading from Kabristan Chowk towards Zakir Nagar market, creating a loud noise,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Ravi Kumar said.

Taking notice of this, the police inspector instructed the staff to stop the motorcycle for inspection. “During the inspection, it was confirmed that the motorcycle’s silencer had been unlawfully modified, enhancing noise beyond permissible limits and thereby contravening the Motor Vehicles Act,” the officer stated.

Even as the police attempted to initiate legal action over the matter against the bike rider, the son, namely Asif called his father to the spot. However, the father instead of cooperating in the matter threatened the police and attempted to forcefully take away the motorcycle saying, ‘Just settle it here and let him go, or else things won’t go well’.

The video doing rounds on social media also shows that as the argument escalated, the man called his father, both of whom got into a scuffle with the policemen in the crowded southeast Delhi locality.

This led to an altercation followed by a scuffle, during which Riyazuddin allegedly caught hold of the SHO while Asif punched him in the face close to the eyes.

The father-son duo also attacked Constable Ramkesh and other police personnel. However, the police personnel managed to overpower the man and his son.

The injured SHO and constable were taken to Holy Family Hospital for treatment and are stated to be stable.

“Both of them were overpowered by the staff and SHO along with constable Ramkesh were shifted to Holy Family Hospital for treatment.

Now, the condition of both the above officers is normal,” the DCP added.

The officer said, "In this regard, a case has been registered against accused Asif and his father for obstructing a public servant from performing his official duties and physically assaulting the SHO and the other police officers on duty,” adding that both the accused have been arrested in the case and investigation of the case is underway.

A senior police official said they are collecting footage from CCTVs, as well as mobile phones, to know what transpired before the fight. The father and son were later pushed into a police van. This act too was recorded in a video that turned up on social media.
