Ensure voting of poll duty govt employees in Lok Sabha polls: ECI

Monday, 05 February 2024 | Staff Reporter | BHOPAL

Before the final publication of the voter list for the Lok Sabha elections, on the instructions of the Election Commission, the work of adding the names of those employees (government)  in the voter list, who were deprived of voting in the elections due to different reasons is yet to be concluded.

Regarding this, in view of the problems faced during the assembly elections, the Election Commission has instructed the collectors to add their names to the voter list in the assembly constituency where the employees live, so that when they are put on duty in the elections, the election duty certificate can be issued and there should be no problem in getting them to vote.

Apart from this, on the instructions of the Commission itself, the work of First Level Checking (FLC) of EVMs has started in all the districts of the state. In this, FLC work is being done in the presence of political parties.

Now following the instructions of the Election Commission, the final publication of the voter list will be done on February 8, then any time after February 20, the Election Commission can declare the election schedule and make the code of conduct effective.

FLC work of EVMs is being done by District Election Officers and Collectors in the districts from 9 am to 7 pm. There are instructions to do this work even on holidays. In view of this, collectors have been asked to invite representatives of all recognized political parties while conducting FLC in the district. Public representatives themselves or authorized representatives can reach the EVM warehouse at the scheduled time and place during FLC work and know and see all the activities.

Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anupam Rajan had reached Sehore and Dewas on Wednesday to check the work of First Level Checking (FLC) of EVMs. Here he reached the EVM warehouse (godown) and observed the FLC (First Level Checking) process. Also discussed EVM, VPAT with the engineers of Bharat Electronics Limited, Bengaluru, who are doing FLC.

During this, Chief Electoral Officer Rajan conducted a mock poll and saw the process of operating EVMs. He inspected the ballot unit, control unit and other rooms and saw the arrangements. Rajan also looked after the security of the EVM warehouse as well as the arrangement of CCTV cameras. Rajan asked the concerned officials to follow the Election Commission of India guidelines for FLC.

On the instructions of the Chief Electoral Officer, demonstration and training of EVMs has also been started in the districts. It is being told that any voter or person can see how the voter votes through EVM by pressing the button of the ballot unit. Whatever button the voter presses on the ballot unit, the election symbol slip will be printed by the VVPAT machine and will fall into the box of the machine. This slip with the election symbol will be visible on the screen of the VPAT machine for 7 seconds and after that it will fall in the box. By looking at the VVPAT slip, the voter accepts that the same slip for the election symbol he pressed has been printed in the VVPAT machine.
