DGP issues guidelines for Independence Day

Wednesday, 14 August 2024 | PNS | Lucknow

To ensure a peaceful Independence Day celebration, Director General of Police Prashant Kumar issued guidelines on Tuesday. He emphasised the need for robust security and traffic arrangements for all major events, including tiranga yatras, prabhat pheris, and tableaux.

Anti-sabotage checks must be conducted prior to these events, with special attention to entry and exit points at venues. Enhanced security should be implemented at gates, rooftops, and in traffic management plans.

Special security measures are required at vital installations like railway stations, metro stations, bus stations, cinema halls, multiplexes, entertainment venues, shopping malls, hotels, dharamshalas, guest houses, crowded areas, and religious sites.

In addition to existing security, the functioning of CCTV and drone cameras should be verified, with continuous monitoring as needed.

Effective checks should be maintained on all entry routes into the state and districts.

All checkposts and barrier duties must be fully operational and well-briefed.

Surveillance of microlight aircraft, paragliders, hang gliders, drones, and other unmanned aerial vehicles should be rigorous, utilising modern technology. Adequate security and traffic measures should also be ensured around schools and colleges.

The district intelligence system should be enhanced, with strict monitoring of anti-national and anti-social activities.

Given the proximity of certain districts to neighbouring states, special vigilance is required on rail, road, and air traffic.

All police personnel, including gazetted officers, station, outpost, and beat-level staff, should be briefed and activated. Any information, regardless of scale, must be taken seriously and prompt legal action should be taken as necessary.

Local police patrol vehicles should remain in continuous operation, and UP 112 vehicles should be stationed on sensitive routes.

Vigilance on social media platforms should be maintained 24x7, with immediate action taken against misleading or objectionable posts and rumours. To uphold police visibility and support community policing, regular foot patrolling should be enforced.
