A team of five students from Plus Two High School, Datu, in Kasmar Block—Rani Kumari, Usha Kumari, Aparna Kumari, Pooja Kumari, Dipika Kumari, and Preeti Kumari—met with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Vijaya Jadhav on Tuesday. During the meeting, the students presented her with a copy of the book "Hum," published by the UN Women & Ford Team, which features their success story.
The DC expressed her delight over their achievement and extended her best wishes for their future endeavors. She also encouraged the students to continue their efforts.
The students shared with the DC that they had acquired skills in solar energy-based lighting systems through vocational training at their school. The inadequate electricity supply in their area inspired them to work in this direction, with the full support of their vocational teacher, Animesh. The team has successfully created solar trees and solar-powered lights and is now manufacturing LED bulbs during their spare time.
The students also presented a sample of their LED bulbs to the DC. Impressed with their work, DC Jadhav instructed District Sub-Divisional Magistrate Vandana Shejwalkar, who was also present, to ensure that the bulbs used in various district offices are procured from the students' team.
The students further mentioned that they had participated in the national-level Bharat Kaushal Competition. The DC assured them that the district administration would provide any necessary support for their initiatives.
