Cyclone Dana to bring heavy showers in State

Owing to the effects of the cyclone ‘Dana’ a change in the weather in Jharkhand is on the cards with heavy rainfall especially in the southern parts of the State being predicted. Cyclone ‘Dana’ was named by Qatar and the word Dana means generosity in Arabic.

As per the Meteorological Centre, Ranchi, the depression over east- central Bay of Bengal has moved west- northwards and lay centered over the same area on October 22. It is likely to move west- northwards and intensify into a cyclonic storm over east- central Bay of Bengal on October 23.

Thereafter it is expected to move northwestwards, intensify into a Severe Cyclonic Storm over northwest Bay of Bengal by the morning of October 24. On the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25, it is expected to cross between Puri in Odisha and Sagar Island in West Bengal as a Severe Cyclonic Storm with a wind speed of 100- 110 km per hour, gusting to 120 km per hour.

As per the bulletin released by the MET Centre, Ranchi, lighting, thunderstorm and gusty winds with speed up to 30- 40 km per hour which may go up to 50 km per hour are expected in the south eastern parts of Jharkhand on October 23.

A yellow alert has been issued for October 24 signifying heavy showers in the south- eastern parts of the State. Thunderstorm and lighting activity with wind speed of 30- 40 km per hour and gusting to 50 km per hour is also likely to take place.

For October 25, an orange alert has been issued stating heavy to very heavy showers for parts of south eastern Jharkhand. This may be accompanied with thunderstorm and lighting and wind speed of up to 40 -50 km per hour which may intensify to 60 km per hour in some places.

The south western parts and adjoining areas may also witness heavy rains on October 25 with thunder storm and lighting as well as gusty winds with speed up to 30- 40 km per hour which could also go up to 50 km per hour.

As a red alert has been issued for some districts in Odisha, trains plying to and from the state too have been cancelled due to the cyclonic storm Dana

Train number 22824 between New Delhi and Bhubaneswar Rajdhani via Muri Junction will remain cancelled on the journey starting from October 23 while Train number 22823 between Bhubaneswar and New Delhi Rajdhani via Muri will remain cancelled on the journey from October 25.

Hatia –Puri Tapaswini Express, train number 18451 will remain cancelled on the journey staring from October 24 while the Puri –Hatia Tapaswini Express Train Number 18452 will also remain cancelled on the journey starting from October 24.

Similarly, Bhubaneswar – Dhanbad Garib Rath Express Train number 02832 will remain cancelled on the commencement date of the journey which is October 24 while Train number 02831 Dhanbad – Bhubaneswar Garib Rath Express will remain cancelled on the commencement date of journey- October 24.

The Train number 12875 between Puri and Anand Vihar Terminal Express via – Muri junction will also remain cancelled on the commencement date of journey- October- 25.
