Changing demography of Santhal threat to democracy: Marandi

Saturday, 27 July 2024 | PNS | Ranchi

BJP State President and former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi once again cornered the State Government on the changing demography of Santhal Pargana. Marandi was addressing the media in the Assembly premises on the first day of the Monsoon Session today.

Marandi said that the population of tribals is continuously decreasing in the entire state. There have been unexpected changes in the demography of the Santhal Pargana region. This change in demography is a threat to democracy, which is a matter of concern for everyone.

He said that if any community has been affected the most in this change, it is the tribal society. Citing the data published on the basis of the census reports of 1951 and 2011, he said that in the year 1951, the population of tribals in Jharkhand was 36%, Sanatani Hindus 87.9% and Muslim population 8.9%. Whereas in 2011, tribals became 26%, Muslims 14.5% and Sanatanis 81.17%. That is, the tribal population decreased, the Sanatani population decreased and the Muslims increased.

Giving the statistics of Santhal Pargana, he said that the situation here has reached the alarm bells. There is an alarming situation here. Giving the statistics, he said that in 1951, the population of tribals in Santhal Pargana was 44.67%, Muslims 9.44% and others 45.9% whereas in 2011, the population of tribals decreased to 28.11% and the Muslim population increased to 22.73%. The population of others increased to only 49.2%.

He said that these statistics are clearly indicating a big change in demography. He said that not only this, but if we consider the data of the voter survey conducted by the BJP in the past days, then the number of voters has increased from 20 to 123% at each booth in the voter list from 2019 to 2024 in 10 assembly constituencies of Santhal Pargana.

He said that the BJP has also gone to the Election Commission regarding this, submitted a memorandum and demanded an investigation. Marandi said that in the constitutional system of the country, reservation has been made for ST SC in Lok Sabha, Assembly elections and jobs according to the proportional ratio of the population. Therefore, due to the decrease in the population of tribals, not only the demography is changing but the reservation percentage will also come down. The tribal society will suffer the most.

He said that he has written a letter to the Chief Minister demanding an SIT investigation into the reasons for the decreasing population. The Chief Minister should take immediate initiative and take action.
