Centre for Engineering & Technology (CET), the in-house consultancy wing of SAIL is set to lead and provide consultancy to some watershed imminent projects in SAIL involving around Rs. 6500 crores of Capital Expenditure for New Bar Mill at Durgapur Steel Plant (DSP) & New Stamp Charge Battery at Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP). Both projects have been approved by SAIL board.

For the DSP project, the order was paced today. CET conducted the feasibility study and will be providing complete engineering consultancy services in it. The new Bar mill will be a high speed state of the art technology mill for producing 1 Million Tonnes per year of rebars in the diameter range of 8mm to 25mm. The mill is designed to produce high strength rebars of Fe700 grade. Installation of this mill will enable DSP to enrich its product mix with high grade products and eliminate sale of any semis. Production of 8mm and 10mm rebar will also enable DSP to enter into the retail segment which has a high demand. The mill will be commissioned within 32 months from the order placement. This project is an effort towards Make in India as the foreign component is less than 5%.

CET is also the consultant for RSP project in coke oven Battery 7. This is the first stamp charge battery in SAIL and is expected to be commissioned in 41 months. This Battery will reduce the input cost of the blend and will produce a better quality of coke.
