HP CM expresses grief over deaths in road mishap
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Sunday expressed grief over the death of five persons in a tragic road mishap that occurred on Saturday night at Lachkandi near Barot of Mandi district. The Chief Minister has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, stating that his thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved families and assuring them of all possible support. He also assured all possible assistance to the bereaved families. The district authorities have provided immediate relief of Rs 25,000 each to the next of kin of the deceased.
4th Gorkha Rifles celebrates regimental reunion
Chandigarh/Subathu: The 4th Gorkha Rifles (4 GR), one of the Indian Army's most esteemed regiments, celebrated its Regimental Reunion on October 26-27, 2024, in Subathu — marking an impressive 167 years of valour and camaraderie. Over 500 veterans, serving officers, and their families attended, rekindling old friendships and memories from their shared service. Notable attendees included Lt Gen Mohit Wadhwa, Chief of Army Staff, HQ Western Command, who encouraged all ranks to uphold the regiment’s glorious history. Major General Balbir Singh, Colonel of the 4th Gorkha Rifles, reflected on the regiment's significant contributions in both pre- and post-independence India. The reunion honoured the sacrifices of comrades and celebrated the rich legacy of courage and brotherhood. Highlights included a wreath-laying ceremony at the war memorial, cultural performances, a Special Sainik Sammelan, and the unveiling of statues and a yearbook, reaffirming the regiment's enduring spirit.
Interaction session with Higher Education secy to enhance multidisciplinary learning
Bathinda: To pave way for implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 across the region's higher education institutions (HEIs), the Central University of Punjab (CU Punjab) on Sunday organized a pivotal roundtable session with K Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, and representatives from 12 leading higher education institutions in Punjab. Murthy urged institutions to embrace NEP-2020’s multidisciplinary approach, including initiatives like credit transfer through MOOCs and flexible learning pathways. He emphasized that open classrooms and dual degree programs are essential for fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. CU Punjab Vice-Chancellor Prof Raghavendra P Tiwari highlighted the university’s commitment to academic collaboration and progress in NEP implementation. The session also focused on sharing best practices among participating institutions, addressing challenges in multidisciplinary education and industrial partnerships.

Chandigarh: Haryana Public Health Engineering Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa on Sunday said that Gurukuls instill values alongside education, contributing significantly to nation and society building. Addressing attendees as the chief guest at the annual festival of Gurukul Arya Nagar in Hisar on Sunday, Gangwa said that Gurukuls not only focus on academics but also impart values essential for life. He attributed rising crimes against women and youth involvement in such incidents to a lack of values. Many Gurukul students now hold esteemed positions, benefiting from the mental peace nurtured in Gurukul's pure environment.
Govt stands firmly with farmers: Hry Agri Minister
Chandigarh: Haryana Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister Shyam Singh Rana on Sunday said that the Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has issued clear directives to the concerned officials to purchase every grain of paddy with up to 17 percent moisture. He said that any complaints in this regard would result in strict action against the responsible officials. Government procurement is ongoing at MSP rates in Haryana’s mandis, with payment being deposited directly into farmers' bank accounts. The Minister said that the government stands firmly with the farmers. Under another beneficial initiative, the Haryana Government is providing a subsidy of Rs 1,000 per quintal on certified wheat seeds for the Rabi crop in 2024-25, he added.
Drive to make Ambala plastic-free launched
Ambala: The Ambala administration launched the ‘Swachh Ambala’ campaign to make the district free of plastic waste and improve sanitation. The campaign which began from October 26 would continue till November 15, targeting both rural and urban areas to enhance cleanliness. Under the initiative, gram panchayats that collect the most plastic waste at the block level will receive Rs one lakh development grant. Additionally, the gram panchayat with the highest per capita waste collection at the block level will also be awarded Rs one lakh.
