Himachal CM felicitates meritorious students in Solan
Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, during his one-day visit to Solan, felicitated the meritorious students of Government Senior Secondary School, Kothi Deora Ghatti on Tuesday. While addressing the gathering on the occasion, he made several announcements to enhance educational opportunities and facilities in the region. He announced the commencement of commerce classes in Government Senior Secondary School, Kothi Deora Ghatti and assured that Kabaddi players from the school would be provided with necessary sports kits. He said that the state government would allocate funds to complete the construction of educational institutions where 60 percent of the building work has been completed, with a target to finish these projects within two years. Sukhu also highlighted the government's efforts to promote sports activities by increasing the diet money for participants.
CM Sukhu pays floral tribute to former PM Rajiv Gandhi on his 80th birth anniversary
Shimla: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday paid homage to former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 80th birth anniversary by offering floral tributes to his statue at Rajiv Chowk, Chhota Shimla.He said Gandhi is also known as the "architect of modern India" and during his tenure as the prime minister, he spearheaded numerous reforms and initiatives to bring a positive change in the mindset of the people and society. "When Rajiv Gandhi was the prime minister of India, I was the president of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI). On the demand of the NSUI, Rajiv Gandhi granted the youth the right to vote by reducing the age to vote from 21 years to 18 years, ensuring active participation of youth in the democratic process. It was the greatest achievement of his tenure" he said. Sukhu further said that in the modern era, India was the leading country in the entire world in the IT sector due to the efforts and vision of the former prime minister. He said that when the USA declined the request to provide supercomputers to India, he took decisive steps to ignite an IT revolution in the country. He said Gandhi also raised his voice for the rights of women in the democratic process and granted 33 percent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions. The day is also observed as 'Sadbhavana Diwas' across the state. Sukhu also administered the 'Sadbhavana Diwas' pledge to the state secretariat officials on the occasion.
Six Himachal districts to get forensic units: CM Sukhu
Shimla: Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday said that the Himachal government will create six district forensic units in the state. Presiding over the state's Forensic Sciences Development Board meeting here, he said that a forensic behavioural analysis unit, food forensic units and other new units would be established in the department for effective functioning. Forensic units will be built in Hamirpur, Una, Sirmaur, Kullu, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti districts, Sukhu said. Stressing on incorporating modern technology to reduce the waiting time for the processing of crime reports, he said that the department must introduce a barcoding system to maintain the integrity of sample collection from the crime scenes which would enhance the accuracy and reliability of evidence. Effective case management is essential to ensure the punishment of the guilty in the court of law, therefore, proper sample collections from the crime scenes are necessary, he said. The department must ensure quality assurances in crime reports to improve conviction rates in the court of law.
Drone-delivered seeds to boost forest growth in Punjab's Dhar block
Chandigarh: In a move to enhance forest cover and protect forest assets, Punjab Forest and Wildlife Preservation Department has initiated an innovative pilot project in Dhar block. The state’s Forest and Wildlife Preservation Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak, alongside Pathankot Deputy Commissioner Aditya Uppal, Conservator of Forests Sanjeev Tewari, and DFO Dharamvir on Monday, launched the project by dispersing a diverse range of seeds over 30 hectares of forested land in Ghatera village near Shahpur Kandi using drones. The initiative involved sprinkling seeds of Tulsi, Awla, Jamun, Harar, Bihra, Suajan, and other species, mixed into sand balls, across the area. This method is part of the Haryali Mission, which aims to plant over three crore saplings across the state. The pilot project in Pathankot district involves dispersing five lakh seeds via drones. With approximately 24,000 hectares of forest in Dhar block, traditional planting methods are challenging due to dense vegetation. Drone technology is utilized to overcome this hurdle, with seeds expected to sprout within 20 days, thus expanding the forest area and contributing to ecological preservation.
Congress will bring ‘get medal, get post’ policy for players: Bhupinder Hooda
Chandigarh: Former Haryana Chief Minister and Congress leader Bhupinder Hooda on Tuesday said if the Congress comes to power in the state, the government will bring ‘get medal, get post’ policy for players. Also, the three per cent quota will be implemented again in jobs for the players and they will be offered higher posts. Hooda said this after meeting Olympic medalist wrestler Aman Sehrawat. Hooda and his son and MP Deepender Hooda welcomed Sehrawat at their residence and felicitated him. Hooda said Sehrawat has made not only Haryana but the entire country proud by winning the medal. After the meeting, Hooda said the government should not be negligent in giving positions, respect and rewards to the players. “The Congress had given appointments to players on senior posts like DSP (Deputy Superintendent of Police) under the ‘Bring Medal, Get Post’ policy. But the BJP stopped this policy as it came to power and took away the right of appointment to high posts from the players, Hooda alleged.
UT Admn to implement groundbreaking provisions of NDPS Act
Chandigarh: To disrupt the drug trafficking network in the city, the Chandigarh Administration and the Chandigarh Police will implement groundbreaking provisions of NDPS Act. A statement, said, “The Objective is to encourage drug peddlers to cooperate and provide comprehensive and crucial information about the drug warlords.” In this regard, a meeting was held in Sector-9 Chandigarh Secretariat, under the Chairmanship of Rajeev Verma, UT Adviser to ensure compliance of the directions passed by the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It will ensure a proactive approach to combat drug trafficking in the city, the statement added.
PDFA denounces milk adulteration reports as “false”; Threatens legal action against rumormongers
Chandigarh: The Progressive Dairy Farmers Association (PDFA) on Tuesday refuted recent reports circulating on social media alleging widespread adulteration in milk, labeling these claims as “baseless” and “misleading”. PDFA president Daljit Singh, addressing a press conference, condemned the spread of false information, which he argued is designed to tarnish the reputation of dairy farmers and incite unnecessary fear among consumers. He warned that PDFA will not hesitate to take legal action against individuals or entities spreading false information. At the same time, he appealed to those responsible to either substantiate their claims with facts or face legal consequences. “I appeal to all those, who have spread rumours about the quality of milk and its production, should bring clarity by bringing out facts, otherwise PDFA will resort to legal courses against such content,” he said. Singh emphasized the importance of milk purity and urged the Government to intensify efforts to ensure that the public receives only the highest quality milk. He also expressed concern over the manipulation of milk production figures by so-called experts who lack an understanding of the industry’s realities. “Punjab produces approximately three crore litres of milk daily during the peak winter season, with 75 lakh litres each distributed to both the organized and unorganized sectors, and the remaining 1.5 crore litres consumed by households.
