Devotees throng temples on Mahashivratri across Punjab Haryana

Chandigarh: On Mahashivratri, devotees in large numbers thronged temples across Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh to offer prayers on Friday. Devotees witnessed standing in long queues waiting to offer milk and fruits to Lord Shiva. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann extended his warm greetings to the people and visited a Shiv temple in Mohali along with his wife Gurpreet Kaur to pay obeisance. Punjab Governor and Chandigarh Union Territory Administrator Banwarilal Purohit also wished people and said Mahashivaratri is the most auspicious and significant spiritual festival for millions of devotees of Lord Shiva and the day is observed with fervour and devotion.

Hry ACB arrests private hospital doctor for taking bribe of Rs 2 lakh in Panipat

Chandigarh: The Haryana Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) team on Friday arrested Dr Vishal Malik, working in a private hospital in Panipat, for taking a bribe of Rs 2 lakh. In this case, a bribe was being demanded by two other accused, namely Dr. Pawan Kumar and Clerk Naveen Kumar, working in the Civil Hospital, Panipat, through Dr Vishal Malik. The ACB team has registered a case against the accused at the police station of ACB, Karnal, and has taken action.  An official spokesperson said that these accused had inspected the Imaging and Diagnostic Center being run by the complainant. During the inspection, the accused had demanded a bribe of Rs 200,000 from the complainant in exchange for not registering an FIR and filing the issued notice.

Solar system being installed in Govt Schools: Hry Minister

Chandigarh: Haryana Development and Panchayats Minister Devender Singh Babli on Friday said that solar systems are being installed in the government schools in the state to ensure adequate power supply and prevent disruptions to students' studies. Babli inaugurated solar panels costing Rs 31.50 lakh in the government schools of Tohana villages namely Rupawali, Karandi, Musa Khera, Shakarpura, Sadhanwas, Kudni, Meond Khurd, Nathuwal and Kana Khera. Basic infrastructure is being developed in these schools to enhance facilities and provide students with a conducive learning environment.

Scientist Dr Krishna M Ella pays courtesy visit to Hry Governor

Chandigarh: The Executive Chairman of Bharat Biotech and scientist Dr Krishna M Ella, along with his wife Suchitra K Ella, Managing Director of Bharat Biotech, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor of Haryana Bandaru Dattatraya, at Raj Bhavan Haryana on Friday. Dattatreya welcomed and honored Dr. Krishna M Ella and Suchitra K Ella by presenting them with shawls and an idol of Lord Shri Krishna.

Statue of first teacher Savitri Bai Phule unveiled in Kharkhoda

Chandigarh: Haryana Deputy Chief Minister Dushyant Chautala on Friday said that Savitri Bai Phule was not only the country's first female teacher but also a notable female freedom fighter. Mata Savitri Bai faced challenges in accessing education during a time when women were prohibited from attending school and leaving their homes to study. However, she did not allow these obstacles to hinder her pursuit of education and continued her struggle. She ultimately became the nation's first female teacher in 1948. The Deputy Chief Minister was speaking after unveiling the 21 feet tall Savitri Bai Phule statue in Kharkhoda.

Ministry of Labour and Employment starts implementing E-Shram portal in Hry


Chandigarh: The Ministry of Labour and Employment on Friday started implementing the E-Shram portal in Haryana to strengthen the welfare of unorganized sector workers. Under this, the labour department has resumed registration of unorganized sector workers. A government spokesperson stated that the Labour Department is committed to the welfare of the state's workers. Workers in the unorganized sector include those in agriculture, labourers, street vendors, domestic workers, and construction workers, among others. This digital platform is designed to connect unorganized workers with welfare schemes, he added.

Chandigarh BJP president flags off van for collecting suggestions for party's manifesto

Chandigarh: An LED van was on Friday started by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for awareness and to collect suggestions from the people to include in BJP's manifesto 'Vikas Bharat Sankalp Patra' being prepared for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections. The LED van was flagged off by city party President Jitender Pal Malhotra from BJP office. This LED van will be parked in different areas of the city near markets, religious places, parks etc. It will also be stationed at all BJP's districts and divisions of the city.

Women’s Day 2024: Chandigarh MC launches ‘Swacchta Ki Mohar’ campaign

Chandigarh: Aiming towards encouraging women to assume leadership role in improving sanitation, the SHGs of the city presented them with the "Swacchata ki Mohar" badge as a symbol of their dedication to cleanliness and waste management. This initiative seeks to empower women and encourage them to play an active role in maintaining personal menstrual hygiene and a clean environment in their communities. On International Women's Day, the Municipal Corporation, in collaboration with DAY-NULM, spearheaded an awareness drive on Menstrual Sanitary Waste Management and Sanitation in the community. Women Self-Help Group (SHG) teams conducted a door-to-door awareness drive in Indira Colony, Manimajra, and Sanjay Colony in Industrial Area Phase 1. Municipal Commissioner Anindita Mitra said on the occasion that the Municipal is committed to promoting sustainable waste management practices and creating a clean and healthy environment for all residents.
