The State capital witnessed the coldest night of the past decade on Thursday as mercury dipped to 9.4 degree celsius.
The 10-year record of cold was broken on the night of 21-22 November in Bhopal. The temperature fell to 9.4 degrees. This is the lowest temperature of November since 2014.
In 2017, the temperature was definitely recorded at 9.6 degrees Celsius. For the first time this season in Bhopal, the mercury dipped below 10 degree celsius. On Thursday night, it came down to 9.4 degree celsius after a drop of 0.8 degrees.
The weather has remained intensely cold since Friday morning and some relief was provided from the sunshine.
In the morning, light fog was also seen in many areas including Kolar, Berasia Road, Ayodhya Bypass, while fog is still present in many areas including Upper Lake.
According to the Meteorological Department, similar weather prevails in Bhopal in November. After November 15, the effect of cold increases, which remains till the end and this time the effect of the cold has intensified.
According to the data of weather of November month in Bhopal in the last 10 years, in the year 2017, the mercury was recorded below 10 degrees i.e., 9.6 degrees Celsius, while twice it was below 10.5 degrees and this is the second time in November that the mercury has been below 10 degree celsius.
Madhya Pradesh is currently shivering with northern winds. Bhopal witnessed the coldest night of the season on Thursday. The night temperature has dropped below 15 degrees in almost all the cities of the state.
Cold is coupled with fog and due to chilling icy winds, the lowest night temperature was recorded in Pachmarhi, Mandla, Umaria and Rajgarh.
The Meteorological Department has warned of further drop in night temperature in the coming days.

Snowfall is witnessed in the hilly areas. At the same time, jet stream winds are also blowing in West-North India, due to which northern winds are entering the state. This is the reason why the mercury at night is continuously dipping.
