Bhopal’s first mother milk bank completely closed

Bhopal's first mother milk bank is completely closed these days. It is being told that this bank is closed after the maternity facility was shifted from Jai Prakash District Hospital (JP) to Katju Hospital.

In such a situation, the unit has been closed for almost a week. This facility was started in Jaypee Hospital about eight years ago.

Due to many reasons, mothers are not able to feed milk to their children. At the same time, the newborns admitted in SNCU were also fed their mothers' milk through the Human Milk Bank. If all these newborns do not get mother's milk then artificial milk is given.

According to the information, the special facility of Mother Milk Bank is being shifted to Maternal Child Katju Hospital located in TT Nagar. And it will take a week to be fully operational on the second floor of Katju. Now a lactation management unit has been prepared in Jaypee Hospital. This unit will work to provide mother's milk to the sick children admitted in the hospital.

Mother Milk Bank which in medical language is called Comprehensive Lactation Management Center (CLMC). This facility is started only in medical colleges and district hospitals. Apart from this, it is also necessary for more than 10 thousand children to be born in a year.

According to the data of April 2022 March 2023, the nursing staff in Jaypee Milk Bank provided services to 3824 patients. Of these, 157 mothers donated milk. A total of 304 liters of milk was collected in one year. In which 239 liters of milk was provided to the newborn baby admitted in SNCU.

The shifting is almost complete. This unit will start fully functioning from next week. At present counseling and other facilities have been started Colonel Praveen Singh, Superintendent, Katju Hospital. Katju Hospital has been started specifically for treatment related to mother and child. There are 300 beds, an adequate number of doctors and staff for patients here. Mother Milk Bank has been shifted there Dr. Rakesh Srivastava, Civil Surgeon, Jaypee Hospital.
