Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati on Tuesday expressed concerns over the deteriorating law and order situation in Bahraich district, stating it has become unmanageable.
She said that the administration’s intentions and policies should remain unbiased.
In a post on X in Hindi, Mayawati said, “It is concerning that the law and order situation in UP’s Bahraich district has deteriorated and is out of control. The government and administration’s intentions and policies should be completely lawful to prevent the situation from escalating and to maintain peace.”
She continued, “Maintaining peace is the government’s foremost responsibility, regardless of any festival or religion. Special arrangements are essential during such occasions. If these responsibilities had been fulfilled, the Bahraich incident would never have occurred. The government must ensure peace and security of people’s lives, property, and religious practices under all circumstances.”
The unrest followed an incident on Sunday during a Durga idol immersion procession, where a 22-year-old was allegedly shot dead, and several others were injured due to stone pelting and gunfire. In response, internet services have been suspended in the district as a precautionary measure.
